You drew the part you used to struggle with. You finished your own piece. Each “I did it” builds confidence and leads to “What should I try next?”

  3. ③ What you love opens up

Student voices

  • StudentA.M.5th grade, Takatsuki

I started because it looked fun.
I’ve gotten better at drawing hands, so next I want to draw anime characters in poses I choose myself, not just copy them.

  • ParentA.M.’s mother

She wanted to draw the manga and anime characters she loves. We bought how-to books on drawing illustrations and tried drawing together, but I couldn’t teach her, she couldn’t draw it well, and we were each struggling in our own way.

She has steadily improved and enjoys coming to class, so I’m glad we chose it.

  • AdultO.K.30s, office worker, Osaka

The teaching at Horie Art School is very thorough. I like that they clearly show me the strengths of my work, what to improve and how to do it.

Frequently asked questions

How do the lessons work?

Rather than everyone doing the same assignment, each student works on what they want to draw and what they want to be able to do.

Lessons take place in the same classroom. Instructors look at each of their students’ work in turn and advise on where they are stuck and what could be made even better.

Is it OK for beginners?

Yes. You don’t need to draw well from the start.

We look at the illustrations you’re drawing now, or what you’d like to draw, and start from the right place for you. If you want to try drawing, you can start from there.

Can I come on different days around school or work commitments?

Yes. You don’t need to come on the same day and time each week.

Choose your lesson days from the open days to fit school events, club activities, work and family plans. We explain how booking and rescheduling work at the trial lesson.

Can children who don’t attend school, or find school hard, come?

Many such children attend.

We don’t make them do the same as everyone else; we go at their pace, looking at what they want to draw and how they are that day. Every child is different, so please come to a trial lesson first and see the atmosphere for yourself.
