Children’s manga & illustration

Children draw the characters and manga they love while steadily adding to what they can draw.

Start withwhat you love.

Drawing a favourite character, making a manga of their own. Children can start from whatever they want to draw.

A child drawing a character on a tablet
  • Wants to draw favourite characters better
  • Wants to bring their own characters and manga to life
  • Wants to try drawing on an iPad or tablet
  • Wants time outside school for something they enjoy
  • Wants to become a manga artist or illustrator one day

What they want to drawbecomes the lesson.

The instructor looks at what each child wants to draw and at their current drawings, and advises them one to one. Rather than everyone doing the same task, each child works on what they want to draw.

Drawing characters

“I can draw faces, but bodies and poses are hard.” When that happens, they practise body balance and movement using the character they want to draw.

Creating original characters

They create characters of their own, thinking about personality, clothing and expressions.

Drawing manga

They turn the story they want to tell into manga, working on panel layout, placing speech, and expression and movement.

Learn with the app and setup you use, such as ibisPaint or Clip Studio. If you have a tablet and pen, please bring them. If not, ask us at the trial lesson.

Coloring

Colored pencils, Copic markers, digital. They practise choosing and applying color with the materials they use.

Fundamentals

Hands, feet, folds in clothing: whatever they find hard while drawing, they practise with the instructor.

What each child wants to drawis different

  • Draw their favourite characters
  • Draw bodies and poses too
  • Create a character of their own
  • Split pages into panels and draw manga

Where to start and how fast to progress differ for every child. At the trial lesson we look at their current drawings and what they want to draw, and suggest how to practise.

What drawing builds

Observation

Looking closely at face shapes, expressions and body movement and drawing them builds breadth of view, flexibility and insight.

Turning ideas into form

Deciding for themselves what clothes and poses to draw builds initiative and thinking.

Building a story

What happens, and how does it unfold? Creating stories builds empathy and the ability to communicate.

Seeing it through

Aiming to finish a piece, talking to the instructor when it gets hard, builds the strength to see things through.

Somewhere besides schoolto do what they love

Children going through a time when school is hard, and children not attending school, come here too.

They can work at their own pace, following what they want to draw and how they feel that day. Start with a trial lesson to see the classroom and how your child gets on with the instructors.
